You know that feeling when you learn about something that resonates so much with you that it feels like home? Perhaps when someone shows empathy or when you discover you share similar attitudes and beliefs.
That’s how I felt when I came across the works of Jon Kabat-Zinn. The past few months, I’ve been immersed in readings, talks and everything else I could get my hands on from this incredible author.
As my mindfulness and meditation practice are deepening, I would like to share these inspiring words that serve as support and encouragement. I suggest you read this attentively and fully. Then look at the calming images below and allow yourself to be carried away and infused with feelings of love and kindness towards yourself.
Love after love
by Derek Walcott
Time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
